If your period or PMS is weird this month, I have a theory.
We’re less than a week away from the spring equinox(!). People are telling me that they’re feeling more fatigued on their period, or that their PMS symptoms are worse than usual. My theory is that it’s because of the line up with the seasonal transition on Earth.
It’s still winter, technically — but it’s also beautiful and sunny and the daffodils are popping off. It feels like we should be in Spring Mode. Many of us are stoked for spring, to get outside to do what we love in the warmth. But let’s be honest: Winter probably isn’t fully done yet. We’ll probably still get some snow or rain or grey days.
We’re feeling a dissonance: It’s kind of winter, kind of spring. Where do we belong? What should we be feeling? I believe that dissonance is making it hard for our bodies to catch up.
Just like Earth, our menstrual cycle has four seasons. I — and many people I talk to — consider their period as an Inner Winter, ovulation as an Inner Summer, and the spaces in between those events as Spring and Autumn. We go through a whole cycle of seasons every menstrual cycle, and the changing seasons of the planet can amplify those internal ones. And thus, you’re left with a harder transition through your menstrual cycle this month. Or so I believe. 😁
